A Cotswold farmhouse near Painswick
18th–19th century, mixed
Handmade tiles carry a slight camber and a sanded underside, so a roof laid with them never sits flat and dead the way a machine-made roof does. That movement is why they are worth saving.
This lot is mixed — the farmhouse had been patched over two centuries — which is exactly what you want if you are trying to make new work look as though it has always been there.
