Largely 19th century
Drystone field walls come down when hedges go in or fields are merged, and the stone is often simply buried. This came from several miles of boundary north of Cirencester.
The lichen matters more than people expect — it takes decades to establish, and a wall built from lichened stone reads as old on day one in a way that new stone never will.
