Pavements in central Bristol
Late 19th century
Bristol paved its streets in Pennant because the stone is brutally hard and does not polish slick in the rain. These came up during footway works and would otherwise have been crushed for hardcore.
The blue-grey darkens almost to charcoal when wet, which is worth seeing before you decide where to lay it.
